Women's Tennis Outfits From Non-Traditional Brands
In 2023, I published an article in Courts titled: Nike’s Retreat From Tennis Fashion, a Brand In Hibernation. The article explored why Nike Tennis doesn’t seem to be the same Nike Tennis of old, especially in the post-Federer era. But it’s not just Nike that seems to be underdelivering in the tennis-fashion world these days. A lot of the giants who we’ve relied upon to make some of the most beautiful tennis styles on the market just aren’t what they used to be anymore. That includes Adidas, Sergio Tacchini (which I recently made a video about), and Fila who just aren’t producing the same quality of gear anymore. That’s due to a lot of reasons that belong in a different blog post but it has opened the door up for other brands in the activewear space to try their hand at tennis gear.
I’ve done my research and here are some outfit options that I think are worth giving a try.

Spanx
Varley
I think it’s great to see new brands innovating in the space. Spanx for example, is deploying clever thought into how shorts are built-in and making sure it’s easy to get in and out of, especially when you’re sweating. Last fall I tried on one of the beautiful new Lululemon dresses with shorts built in and I so wanted to love it. But the step-in design and thick material was already challenging enough to get into when I wasn’t hot and sweaty. I couldn’t imagine how much more challenging it would have been to use the bathroom after a session on-court in that dress. These details really matter, so I love to see brands innovating and trying to new design styles. Afterall, if the giant sportswear brands are sleeping, it’s time for other brands to capitalize.
